"Mary Matthews was born and raised in New Jersey until the age of 18. As an adult she journeyed westward finally reaching Fairbanks, Alaska where she has lived since 1980.
She resides in an unconventional home in a forest of birch and spruce. Her work is influenced by her relationship to all things discarded and every bit of nature encountered while out walking." - via marymatthewsak.com
Sara Unangst knows no bounds. Her art ranges from alcohol ink to graphite, to pastels - even photography. Essentially, she describes her creations as "life art", expressing how the natural wonders Alaska and other influences have stirred her imagination. "Colorado native, New England-raised creative; Ellie has been immersed in the visual arts from a young age. Formally trained and integrated in the fine art communities in Burlington, Boston, Santa Fe, Boulder, and now Fairbanks - she finds inspiration in the emotional density of palette/strokes, cityscapes/nature, entropy/renewal." - from her website, www.westandbond.com.
A carpenter by trade, Jordan Jakway can build anything. Ask him to build you an entertainment center, bookcase, or even beautifully crafted corn hole boards - he can do it. But for this show, he will be presenting his experimentation with electrified wood. The concoction creates a Lichtenberg effect, almost like the pattern of tree roots. To see an example of how he does it, check out this video he posted on his Facebook page.
Origami, paint, and metal. These are the three essential ingredients to Ryan Rain's mixed media style. A Fairbanksian for a few years now, Ryan is an expert in making everything an art project. Usually taking the oddball leftovers and making something interesting out of them.
The Purple Blues Band
The Purple Blues Band will remind you of every road trip you have ever taken. Weaving seamlessly through an array of classic songs by Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, and Creedence Clearwater Revival, you will certainly fight the urge to dance!
