"Years before I went to medical school I reluctantly agreed to see a naturopathic doctor to help me with my health. I was very skeptical at first, then became pleasantly surprised that the doctor was well-trained, very knowledgeable, and she helped turn my life around. While working with patients of many different backgrounds and health needs, I find that the most profound results often come from basic treatments. As a naturopathic doctor, I am trained in conventional medical diagnostic tools, which I use when necessary to help determine the cause of a patient's illness. Following naturopathic medical principles, I recommend treatments using the lowest level of force necessary. Patients who take advantage of different medical traditions (naturopathic, conventional, Chinese and others) have more options available to create their optimal wellness plan." Specialties: The specialties listed below are what I have worked with the most. As a primary care doctor, I do not exclude any conditions or health concerns: - Weight Loss (usually through the Total Body, Total Health program)
- Reproductive Health
- Chronic Illness
- Lifestyle Changes
- Preventive Medicine
- Emotional Wellness
Time spent in Alaska: Since October 2010. I considered moving to Fairbanks on a whim while I was applying for residency programs. When I came to visit for the first time, I knew this would be my next home. I was attracted to the strong community feel at ACNM and throughout the Fairbanks area. Previous locations: I was born and raised in Maryland! I still have family and many close friends in the area. Washington D.C was next, an exciting and beautiful backdrop for a rewarding college experience. I escaped the east coast when I went to medical school and moved to Seattle, Washington. Previous Careers: Research Technician in chemotherapy drug development (National Cancer Institute, part of NIH Frederick, MD) Predoctoral Research Fellow on the effects of medicinal mushrooms on the immune system (Bastyr University-Kenmore, WA) Hobbies: My hobbies include: - Physical Activity: Biking, hiking, and working out at the gym.
- Cooking: I especially like cooking with locally grown ingredients.
- Meditation: A rewarding tool that I include in my self-care.
- Piano: I've been playing piano since childhood. I also love listening to music of all kinds.
- Photography: I'm a true amateur. Interior Alaska is a great subject!
Family: I enjoy traveling to visit family and friends all over the lower 48. My local family consists of co-workers and friends I've gotten to know since moving to Fairbanks.
