MATTHEW PRIEBE, LAc

20 years ago, Matthew had friends with a four year old daughter with a lot of energy. They had a hard time controlling her, so they brought her to the doctor, and diagnosed her with ADD. After the diagnosis, she was prescribed Ritalin to help promote calmness. That encounter left Matthew thinking that there had to be an alternative way of dealing with health issues other than medication. Research led Matthew to the field of oriental medicine, and subsequently, acupuncture school.

After graduating from the American Academy of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Matthew practiced acupuncture in his own office in Minnesota, before moving to the Fairbanks area.

What do you like to treat and why?

I like to treat various pain related conditions because when a person is in pain, it significantly affects their daily life.

When a person is in pain, it can have significant negative affects. Simple things such as opening a jar or walking up stairs become difficult tasks. Pain can restrict or limit activities that people enjoy doing.

Chronic pain can cause stress, anxiety, depression and it can strain relations with friends and family, affecting overall well-being.

How long have you been in Alaska and why did you move here?

I have been in the Fairbanks area since early 2018 and moved to Alaska to experience vastness that is Alaska - the glorious long days, the beautiful Aurora Borealis, and the outdoor adventures in any given season!

Where have you lived before Alaska?

I have lived in Minnesota and Virginia.

Hobbies and other interests?

I enjoy cooking and being outdoors. Cooking is an art form that provides immediate gratification, or not. When you make something that is delightfully mouthwatering, you can know it by guests reaction, just as know when it turns out awful.

There are outdoor activities for all the seasons that I enjoy. Snow-machining, working with sleddogs in the winter, to camping, hiking and fishing during the summer.
