Weight Management Program

OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAM:

We are not going to sugar-coat it for you, losing weight is hard. First, it is easy and cheap to get high-calorie, low-nutrient food (i.e., fast food) and not exercise. We are all busy, stressed, and pulled a million different directions. Eating right and exercising takes effort, time, and money. Secondly, there a billion different opinions on diet, exercise, supplements, medications, and surgeries out there. Who is right?  That is where we come in. Our naturopathic doctors are extensively trained in nutrition, genetics, endocrine disorders (diabetes, hypothyroidism, etc.), and exercise prescription. There is no “one size fits all” program that works for everyone. Which is why our doctors take into account your medical history, family history, body type, blood type, blood tests, medications, genetics, and a number of other factors before prescribing your individualized plan.  But it does not stop there. We know providing the right information is huge, but more importantly, changing your behavior is when success really happens. This is why they also walk through this process with you. Our strategy is to check in with you weekly to make sure you are doing well and moving in the right direction.  Change takes time, but it can move faster with some accountability.

OFFICE VISITS:

The  first visit is generally an hour long, which gives you enough time to tell us your story, expectations, and goals. Our doctors will take an extensive history, do a physical exam, and possibly order tests. You will be given information at this visit to get you started, however, more individualized details will be provided at subsequent visits once your doctor has had time to review your history and any lab test results that were ordered. You will also get your weight, body fat composition, and measurements completed at this visit as well. Your doctor will also discuss scheduling follow up visits that may include measurements, check-ins, and diet/exercise/supplement adjustments.

DIET:

You will be prescribed a diet to best fit you and your goals. They are well versed in paleo, mediterranean, vegan, vegetarian, ketogenic, and numerous other diets. We may perform genetic testing beforehand to help determine what is most appropriate.

EXERCISE:

An activity program that best suits you and your goals will be advised, while taking into consideration any restrictions (injuries) or time constraints. Within our center, you may perform certain fitness tests (treadmill, strength/endurance testing, etc.) to better individualize your program. If needed, we have great relationships with other fitness professionals in the area and would be more than happy to help get you connected to the right one.

SUPPLEMENTS:

Upon the initial office visit, your doctor may recommend certain supplements or wait until your lab test results to better individualize this. These recommendations may address underlying disorders (diabetes, hypothyroidism, etc.), support detox pathways, and/or improve exercise performance and recovery. This is really where our doctors shine. No one is better suited to provide individualized recommendations on proper supplementation than naturopathic doctors.

BEHAVIORAL MODIFICATION:

Like said before, we know real success comes from behavioral modification and changing habits. This can be very challenging and, most often, the most difficult obstacle. This is why we have an outstanding counselor available onsite to help provide you tools and insight in how to navigate through this change.

PAIN MANAGEMENT:

Often times, an injury or arthritis can prevent someone from getting the exercise they need to lose weight. If this is the case, our doctors can help modify your exercise program, treat your injury with multiple physical medicine modalities (myofascial release techniques, spinal manipulation, ultrasound, e-stim, etc.), and/or refer you out to our other capable providers (acupuncture, chiropractic, massage therapy).

We do not run a “one size fits all” mill here. We know what we are doing, how to create a program specific to you, and how to modify it on the fly so you get the best results. No matter if you hit your goals in 1 month or 1 year, we will be right beside you the entire time.
